FAQs

MY GUARANTEE:
I appreciate your support and want you to have a successful season growing beautiful varieties of dahlias. Thank you for shopping at Dakota Dahlias! I guarantee that the tuber(s) you purchase will be a viable tuber or a viable small clump (it won’t be huge clump) of tubers with at least one eye and be true to the variety you purchased. Tubers are grown, labeled, and verified in my garden, except where noted that they did not bloom and are not bloom-verified. This is noted on those varieties.

****Please note: My tubers from 2025 were smaller than normal after growing in grow bags for the season. I also ordered a lot of cuttings that produced small clumps, if they produced any tubers at all. To ensure storage survival and better success in growing them, I left them in small clumps. Please take note of this before ordering. Quite frankly, I find small tubers oftentimes grow better/faster than big honkin’ tubers.

I also experience a lot of lenticels. Lenticels form when water drainage is not good. It is the tuber’s way of storing water. They are a neutral issue; however, please note, my tubers might have lenticels.

Growing in grow bags was new to me in 2025. I liked some aspects of it and not others. I can see the benefit of it, but also experienced the negative aspects. I will still use around 50 grow bags, but I am building raised beds for the majority of my varieties in 2026.

As for the true to variety, please email by September 15th of the year ordered if you receive any mislabels, after all, I am human and therefore, not perfect. I use a 2-4 label system to ensure tubers are bloom verified. However, sometimes a tuber gets knocked off & who knows when that happened or to which clump it belongs. Mystery tuber it is!

REGARDING THE SALE:
All varieties will be marked as SOLD OUT until sale is open. Please keep in mind the variety in your cart is not yours until you have completed checkout. Dahlia wars is a real thing. It is highly recommended that you check out quickly with varieties you wish to snag and come back for others. Just because it is in your cart does not mean it won’t go out of stock before you check out. I understand the frustration and I have no control over this.

TUBERS:
Let’s face it, tubers go underground, into the dirt. They don’t have to be pretty. Basically, they are all ugly potato-like things that grow awesome, wondrously beautiful flowers given the proper soil, nutrients, water, and sunlight. Just like humans, they come in all different shapes and sizes, some with very little neck or crown. Some will have bumps and humps and curves as it grew around other tubers. Tubers might be slightly soft or slightly shriveled…that’s OK! They are still viable and will grow.

It really doesn’t matter what they look like as long as they are viable with an eye that will sprout and an intact neck. I would like to have all the eyes pop before shipping, but I know some varieties take forever to pop that eye and sprout. I do not have that kind of room to pre-sprout tubers. I cannot guarantee pre-sprouted tubers.
